Race of the Day – 19:00 Chelmsford
The evening racing at Chelmsford is the venue for Race of the Day, and a 0-85 handicap run over two miles on the all weather course here.
Cavalieri is at the bottom of the handicap, but interestingly he is rated highest on the Speed Ratings with a mark of 101, and is quite well clear of the second highest. His jockey, Kevin Stott, has a very good record at this course. Over the past year he’s had four winners (36.36%) and five places (45.45%) from 11 runners, for level stakes profits of 16.75 and 16.44 respectively.
When looking at the Full Form tab for the Dr Newland trained Duke Street, we can see that racing over two miles is about the optimum trip for him. He’s won three races on the flat and one over hurdles at this distance, and is definitely a runner to take a closer look at.
The Instant Expert tab is free to all users for every single race on a Thursday, and it is Duke Street that really stands out. He has four sections of green and one of amber, showing that if he runs his race, he should be in the mix towards the end. This is his first race on the flat for a while, and he is rated 20 pounds higher than for his last flat victory, however he did finish third from this mark this time last year over course and distance.
Midtech Star also looks quite useful on this report, as he has two sections of green and two of amber. He is also just the three pounds higher than for his last victory, so looks to be in with a shout of making the frame.
From looking at the Pace tab we can see that the further back in the field you are early on, the better chance you have of winning the race. Horses that are held up have won over 17% of the time, and have actually yielded a level stakes profit.
