Race of the Day – 13 Mar

Race of the Day – 17:50 Chelmsford

This is a one mile and five furlong handicap on the all weather surface at Chelmsford, for horses rated from 0-75.

Bracken Brae was a winner last time out over two miles, however she does have excellent course and distance form. She has raced over course and distance seven times, with three wins, three seconds and a third place.

Mick Easterby runs Heart Locket here today, and he has an excellent course record. Over the past five years, he’s had 15 winners (28.85%) and 27 places (51.92%) for level stakes profits of 16.47 and 15.764 respectively.

When looking at the Instant Expert report Bracken Brae stands right out. She has four sections of green and one of amber, showing that she is very well suited by the racing conditions here today. She is just the two pounds heavier than for her last victory, and looks to have a very good chance of taking this.

When switching to the ‘place’setting, Rowlestone Lass has a very consistent record, and at a price of 16/1, looks to be potentially a value each way shout.

Leaders here over this distance have the best record, with a little over 17% of them going on to win the race. Next best are prominent runners, with just under 17% of them winning, and I think this highlights that it is definitely preferable to be towards the front of proceedings early on in the race.

Casablanca looks almost certain to be right at the front early on, based on his last four runs. He is always very handy, and nothing else in the race is much of a front runner.
