Race of the Day – 5 Apr

Race of the Day – 17:15 Wolverhampton

This is a wide open seven furlong handicap for three year olds on the all weather surface at Wolevrhampton, with several of the field in with a chance, making it a difficult one to pick apart.

A Sure Welcome has been off the track for 155 days, but he is chasing a hat trick after victories at Kempton and here, both over seven furlongs. Those wins were both in nursery handicaps, and he only six pounds higher for those wins, therefore if he has improved over the winter then he is definitely in with a chance. Franny Norton is the jockey and he has been among the winners of late, winning seven (25%) and being placed in ten (35.71%) for level stakes profits of 152.50 and 173.85 respectively.

A Sure Welcome and Jack Blane both stand out when looking at the Instant Expert report. They each have four section of green and have both won here at Wolverhampton previously. Interestingly they are both also just two pounds higher than for their last wins, so look well positioned to give good accounts of themselves today.

From the Pace report we can see that early leaders here over this distance have a very good record, with almost 15% of them winning for a level stakes profit of 161.77. Prominent runners are comfortably next best, showing that it is definitely preferable to get away to a solid start.

Lady Volante and Viola Park are both usually very fast from the stalls and like to be at the head of affairs early on.

Trainer Statistics is the Geegeez Gold report that is free to all users on a Wednesday, and it highlights what excellent form Richard Hannon has been in over the last 30 days. He’s had nine winners (22.5%) and 23 places (57.5%) from 40 runners, which have yielded level stakes profits of 48.98 and 61.49 respectively. His stable are clearly at the top of their game and he runs Luduamf here today, who ran well in defeat (third when hampered) last time out over course and distance, and is actually a pound better off at the weights here today. At 11/2 he feels like an each way bet to nothing, and is helped further by having Hollie Doyle on board who claims three pounds.
