Race of the Day – 11 May

Race of the Day – 15:45 Catterick

This is a seven furlong fillies handicap for those rated 0-85.

Bahamian Bird is one of the shorter priced runners, and she is trained by Richard Fahey, who has an exceptional record here at Catterick. Over the last five years he’s had 45 winners (23.56%) and 87 places (45.55%) from 191 runners, for level stakes profits of 40.81 and 31.89 respectively. Therefore whenever he sends a runner here, it is worth a closer look.

Coronation Day has been running very well, with two wins and a second place from her last three races. She has shot up the ratings because of this, however she managed to finish second last time out from this mark, so if she can improve on that run, she should have a chance.

The Instant Expert report is available to all, for every race on a Thursday, and it is an excellent tool for giving a snap shot of how each runner does under that day’s racing conditions.

Here we can see that Coronation Day looks very well suited, with four sections of green and one of amber. She has raced just the once here at Catterick, a race in which she won, and seven furlongs appears to be her optimum trip. The ratings column shows what was mentioned above, that she is a fair bit higher (13lbs) in the weights than for her last win, however she looks capable of defying that rise.

It is clear from looking at the Pace report that early leaders here over this distance have a distinct advantage. From a large sample of races, 21.67% of them have gone on to win the race, for a level stakes profit of 182.65.

Stosur is a confirmed front runner, but there are three others in the field, Courier, Bahamian Bird and Coronation Day, that are also usually very handy early on. Therefore they may well be quite a struggle for the early lead in this race.

From the Draw report it shows us that high numbers find it very difficult, and that means it may be tough for Stosur (6) and Bahamian Bird (7), to get the early lead.

Coronation Day looks to have a very nice drawn in stall one, and should have a good chance of being able to take the lead from here.
