Race of the Day – 7 Jun

Race of the Day – 19:55 Kempton

This is a good looking handicap on the all weather surface at Kempton, being run over a mile and a half.

Ed Dunlop trains the current favourite Opposition, who is around a 9/4 shot. Ryan Moore takes the ride, and as well as being in very good current form, he has a decent long term record here at Kempton. Over the past five years, he’s had 60 winners (24.79%) from 242 runners, for a level stakes profit of 22.08. Opposition has been running consistently well on turf, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on now trying the polytrack for the first time.

Captain Peacock has risen up the weights courtesy of a couple of wins in a row, however he won here at Kempton in April from just four pounds lower, therefore if he has improved again, he could get competitive in this.

With the Instant Expert report on the ‘Place’ setting, Fergall comes out really well. He has four sections of green and two of amber, showing his liking for today’s racing conditions. If the drop down in class and return to favourable conditions brings out the best in this ten year old, then he could run a big race at a nice price.

Captain Peacock has two sections of green, one of which is for the course, where he has been placed two out of his three races here. This would appear to be about his optimum trip as well.

Horses that race prominently here over this distance have the best record, as can be seen from looking at the Pace report. However, it is only marginal and there isn’t a lot to choose between the four running styles.

Zambeasy is a definite front runner, and if he gets away from the stalls ok, then it looks very likely that he will be the early leader.

A lot of the runners have been quite handy in their recent races, so this has the potential to be quite a strongly run contest.

The Trainer Statistics report is available to all users on a Wednesday, and it shows what excellent form Eve Johnson Houghton has been in over the past month. She’s had 10 winners (21.74%) and 19 places (41.30%) from 46 runners, for level stakes profits of 61.50 and 71.81 respectively. This is a super run and she saddles Fleeting Visit is this one.
