Race of the Day – 16:15 Beverley

Karen Tutty is a relatively unheralded trainer, but when looking at the Trainer Statistics report we can see that she has a particularly promising record at Beverley. The figures below are for the past year, and as well as showing an extremely healthy level stakes profit for both win and each way, the Impact Value is over 2.00, meaning that she wins here more than twice as much as average. She sends two runners to Beverley today, and the one I am focusing on is Talent Scout.

Taking a look at the Full Form filter and selecting distance on the ‘Race Conditions’ shows that seven furlongs are the favoured distance for Talent Scout, however, if we filter this further and include today’s going, then it shows this Exceed And Excel gelding has a wonderful record in these conditions. We could actually filter it further and include course, as this would eliminate his third place finish at Doncaster. With that included for completeness, over seven furlongs on good to firm going Talent Scout is 4/9 for 33.5 points, which is a wonderful record.

He maybe 11 years old now but his two recent wins shows that he still has the drive to see his races out, although it should be noted that he has been hit with a two-pound rise for his most recent win, taking him to a mark that is higher than he has won from previously.

The Instant Expert report highlights a lot of what we were looking at on the Full Form filter, and shows he is well suited to today’s conditions. He appears to have a liking for this course, just like his trainer (and jockey for that matter), and a winning record of 5/15 around here is excellent. A further encouraging aspect is that not many of the other runners look that well suited by this race.

The Horses For Courses report gives us some more detail behind Talent Scout’s excellent course form. A 33.33% strike rate and 66.67% place rate is impressive enough, but these have yielded level stakes profits of 35.50 and 55.33 respectively, which is an amazing return.

Talent Scout is a horse that likes to lead, and the Pace report shows that early leaders here over this distance have a 25.09% strike rate, for a level stakes profit of 274.33.

There doesn’t appear to be too much pace in the race, with only El Principe looking likely to challenge Talent Scout for the lead, based on the last four runs of each horse. Therefore this looks like he has a good opportunity to get to the front and be able to dictate things.

High drawn horses look to have a small advantage and with Talent Scout drawn 12, this is a help, especially as his main rival for the early lead, El Principe, is drawn in stall three.

In what is a wide open handicap, there are several promising aspects which back up the case for another strong run from Talent Scout. As mentioned earlier, he is 11 now and on a mark he hasn’t previously won from, but he is in great shape and at a price of 9/1, I think he represents a value each way play.
