The Trainer Snippets report highlights what a good record Hughie Morrison has with staying flat runners. From 201 runners he’s had 36 winners (17.91%) and 72 places (35.82%) which have produced level stakes profits of 37.04 and 34.94 respectively, and an Impact Value of 1.62.
He runs Aurora Gray in the two mile handicap at Goodwood today.
The current form of Aurora Gray is extremely consistent with two wins, two second places and two third placed efforts in her last six races.
She has been running at distances further than two miles, but all three of her career wins have come at today’s distance, so it is encouraging that she reverts back to that trip here.
She is ten pounds higher than for her last win, however, she put in a fine effort from just three pounds lower in a similar level handicap last time out, so I am hopeful that she is not fully exposed yet at this trip.
When expanding the trainer form on the racecard we can see that as well as having a decent record with stayers, Morrison also has an above average record in handicaps, having a Impact Value of 1.51 and a win percentage of 15.57%, showing a small level stakes profit from 456 runners.
Jim Crowley has been among the winners recently and he also had a great record here at Goodwood over the past year.
He’s had 14 winners (25.93%) and 22 places (40.74%) from 54 runners, for level stakes profits of 32.09 and 24.99 respectively. He also has an Impact Value of 2.51 during this time, meaning he is over two and a half times more likely than average to have a winner.
The Instant Expert report shows that Aurora Gray is well suited by today’s conditions, with four sections of green and one of amber when on the ‘Place’ setting. A few others in the race have a couple of green sections, but none look as good as Aurora Gray in this respect.
