Race of the Day – 15:05 Perth

Pikarnia makes it onto The Shortlist today with a perfect score of 15 when on the ‘Place’ setting, having five sections of green. This shows that he is very well suited to today’s conditions and is definitely worth a closer look.

An initial glance at the racecard shows that Pikarnia has been in extremely consistent form this year, with a winner, two second places and a third in his last five races. He took a seven-pound rise in the handicap for that win but has acquitted himself well since and was staying on into second place over course and distance last time out.

He will be hoping that this is a truly run race so his stamina comes into play inside the last half a mile.

The Instant Expert report confirms the excellent showing of Pikarnia and how well he is suited by today’s race. It also shows that he is nine pounds higher than for his last win, however, a lot of today’s field is in a similar position.

Ebony Rose also shows up well on this report and she is making her handicap debut today for a trainer who has a reasonable record with those types of runners and also has useful course form.

The Pace report shows that there appears to be very little pace in the race with only Charlie Papa Lima in the field that usually likes to dictate things.

Early leaders here over this distance do have a good record with 24.79% of them going on to win the race, producing a level stakes profit of 69.60 and an Impact Value of 2.07.

I am hoping that Brian Hughes keeps Pikarnia much closer to the pace today and I think if he does he can use his proven stamina to really try and stretch this field.
