The Trainer Snippets reports shows that Nicky Henderson has an incredible record with horses making their first start in the UK or Ireland. From a sample of 96 runners, he’s had a quite brilliant 31 winners (32.39%) and 53 places (55.21%), for level stakes profits of 32.52 and 40.23 respectively. This has also produced an Impact Value of 3.94, meaning that he’s almost four times more likely than average to have the winner with such runners.
Henderson has three runners making their first start today, and I am going to be taking a closer look at Countister, who runs in quite a good looking mares’ novices’ hurdle over two miles at Newbury.
Countister ran to a decent level in France, and finished off last autumn winning two grade two bumpers. Her breeding tentatively suggests that she could make it over the sticks, and she is certainly in the right yard for that.
The Trainer Snippers report on the racecard shows that Henderson has been among the winners recently, and also has a reasonable record here at Newbury over the past year. During this time he is 9/41 (21.95%) for an Impact Value of 2.23.
Barry Geraghty has been riding well over the past few weeks and has a nice amount of winners, as over the past 30 days he’s 12/51 (23.53%) for an Impact Value of 2.51.
He too has a good record here at Newbury over the past year, with a record of 4/15 (26.67%) for 1.41 points and an Impact Value of 2.71.
This is a fascinating early season novices’ hurdle which could catapult one of these to the forefront on the betting for the festival next March (although Countister and Cap Soleil are already towards the head of the betting for the mares’ novices’ hurdle).
