Race of the Day – 14:00 Lingfield

The Horses For Courses report is available to all registered users on a Friday and it shows what an incredible record Scottish Glen has when racing at Lingfield. He has managed six wins (42.86%) and 11 places (78.57%) from 14 races, for level stakes profits of 28.50 and 40.45.

He has been in poor form on the turf, but a return to preferable surroundings will hopefully bring the best out in him.

Although a relative outsider in the betting at around 16/1, it is interesting to note that Scottish Glen actually tops the Speed Ratings. This is a reassuring nod towards his ability in these conditions and also noteworthy is that the current favourite, Tiercel, props up the rest of the field on these ratings.

As mentioned above, the current form of Scottish Glen has been nothing short of poor and it may be that this 11-year-old is well past his best. However, when you look at the comparison between his turf form and his all-weather form, there are definite grounds for optimism. He has a 35% strike rate on the all-weather courses and although it has been over two years since his last win, he has only races on these tracks twice since then.

The Instant Expert report on the ‘Place’ setting shows that Scottish Glen is really quite well suited to today’s conditions, and is five pounds lower than for his last victory. It is also worth noting that he is a full 14 pounds lower than his highest all-weather mark, so if the ability is still there he is extremely well weighted.

Ice Royal is the only runner that comes out better than Scottish Glen on this report, and he is the rank outsider at 50/1 (that is quite a forecast there!).

The Pace report shows that early leaders here over this distance have a useful record, with 20.33% of them going on to win the race, for a level stakes profit of 254.26 and an Impact Value of 1.75.

There doesn’t appear to be any real out and out pace in the race, but a few of the runners like to be prominent in their races (including Scottish Glen) so I imagine one of these will lead them along.
