Race of the Day – 14:05 Catterick
The Trainer Jockey Combo Stats report shows that the combination of Donald McCain and Will Kennedy have been in excellent form together over the past 30 days. They’ve had 11 winners (22.45%) and 23 places (46.94%) from 49 runners, for level stakes profits of 11.75 and 9.95 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.12.
They team up with three at Catterick today and I am going to be taking a closer look at Middlebrow, who is taking on a heavily odds-on favourite in a two-mile novices’ handicap chase.
Prior to his previous race, the form of Middlebrow had been quite poor. However, he jumped a lot better in his second run over the larger obstacles and was a convincing ten lengths winner here in November. As long as his jumping takes another step forward I think there is plenty of possible improvement from this six-year-old and he will hopefully be able to cope with the step back down to two miles.
The form of the McCain yard over the past couple of weeks has been exceptional. He has managed to have nine winners (28.13%) and 16 places (50.00%) from 32 runners, for level stakes profits of 6.08 and 3.78 and an Impact Value of 2.59.
He also has a one in five strike rate with last time out winners.
Jockey Will Kennedy has also been among the winners recently and he has a good record here at Catterick over the past year. From 15 races here he has had five winners (33.33%) and seven places (46.67%) for level stakes profits of 4.33 and 3.35 and an Impact Value of 2.87.
The Pace report shows that early leaders here over this distance have a good record, with 23.94% of them going on to win the race, for a level stakes profit of 15.78 and an Impact Value of 1.76.
Middlebrow is normally quite prominent in his races and I Imagine that Kennedy will want to make this as much of a stamina test as possible, given his proven ability of a few furlongs further than this.
