Race of the Day – 2 January 2018

Race of the Day – 17:10 Newcastle

The Trainer Jockey Combo Stats report shows that David Evans and Fran Berry have been among the winners together over the past month. They have managed to have six winners (22.22%) and 12 places (44.44%) from 27 runners, producing level stakes profits of 7.00 and 8.46 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.05.

They have just the one runner together today, Gracious John in a five-furlong dash on the all-weather at Newcastle.

Gracious John is chasing a hat-trick here today after wins at Lingfield and Wolverhampton. He has been raised a further three pounds for his win last time out but appears to be in great form so it would be no surprise to see him go close in this.

He is at the top of the Speed Ratings by quite a bit, on a mark of 107.

As mentioned earlier, David Evans has been in good form recently with a few winners, and from looking at the Trainer Snippets on the racecard we can see that his strike rate with runners on the all-weather courses is better than his overall record.

The sire of Gracious John, Baltic King, does significantly better with his runners that go on the all-weather. From 123 runners, he’s produced 19 winners (15.45%) and 46 places (37.40%) for level stakes profits of 8.90 and 21.24 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.47.

The Instant Expert report shows that Gracious John is reasonably well suited to today’s conditions, with two sections of green and two of amber. It also confirms what was mentioned above, that he is three pounds higher than for his last win.

Atletico comes out best on this report, with four sections of green and looks nicely suited to this race.

The Pace report shows that early leaders here over this distance have the best record, with 14.29% of them going on to win the race. This has however produced a small level stakes loss and it isn’t as beneficial as may be expected for a race over this minimum trip.

Gracious John is usually prominent during his races and it would no surprise to see Fran Berry try and make all on him again today.
