Secret Door is on The Shortlist at Ludlow today with a good score of 13, having four sections of green and one of amber.
He is the top weight in a two and a half mile novices’ handicap chase and looks well suited to today’s conditions.
The recent form of Secret Door hasn’t been anything to get carried away with but he was better last time out and back down to a mark of 122, I am hoping a change to chasing (makes his debut over the larger obstacles today) will see a marked improvement. He is down in grade here as well and if his jumping is good first time out, I can see him being tough to stop in this one.
Harry Fry has enjoyed sending his runners here over the past year as he is 4/8 (50%) for a level stakes profit of 8.92 and an Impact Value of 4.10.
His yard hasn’t been in amazing form recently but there have been a few winners so it is not something I am too bothered about.
Jockey Daryl Jacob has also had joy here at Ludlow over the past year with three winners from ten runners (30%) and an Impact Value of 2.46.
The Instant Expert report highlights the good showing of Secret Door in today’s conditions and also shows that the majority of the rest of the field does not appear at home in these conditions, as there are very few sections of green.
The Pace report shows that prominent runners here over this distance have the best record, with 19,05% of them going on to win the race for a small level stakes profit and an Impact Value of 1.58. This is from a small sample of runners, however, so not too much credence should be given too it.
Secret Door is usually quite prominent in his races and something similar wouldn’t be a surprise here with Jacob trying to get him into a good rhythm over the fences early on.
