Race of the Day – 23 January 2018

Race of the Day – 15:50 Leicester

The Trainer Jockey Combo Stats report shows that David Pipe and Tom Scudamore have an excellent long-term record together at Leicester. Over the past five years, they’ve had nine winners (40.91%) and 11 places (50.00%) from 20 runners, for level stakes profits of 6.45 and 3.08 respectively and an Impact Value of 3.38.

They have just the one runner together at Leicester today, which is Delface who runs in a two-mile handicap hurdle.

The recent form of Delface has been poor, however, he has not dropped to an attractive mark and the return to two miles will hopefully help as he won twice over this distance in the first half of last year.

He was a winner in testing conditions at Wexford so the heavy going here today may help to bring out the best in him.

David Pipe has had a few winners recently but it is his long-term course form that really stands out. He’s had 13 winners (36.11%) from his last 36 runners here, for a level stakes profit of 7.86 and an Impact Value of 2.98.

Tom Scudamore also has a good record at the course and he has been in excellent form over the past few weeks. From his last 19 races, he’s managed five winners (26.32%) and six places (31.58%) for level stakes profits of 12.88 and 6.35 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.31.

There are very few sections of green on the Instant Expert report, but Delface does have three to his name and looks reasonably well suited to today’s conditions.

There are only two other sections of green between the rest of the field, therefore, this is a race that may not take too much winning.

The Pace report shows that there is very little between early leaders and prominent runners here over this distance, and in fact, there isn’t a huge pace bias overall.

Crafty Roberto and Georgieshore look the most likely early leaders, whilst Delface has also been known to take the lead in a few of his recent races, meaning this has the potential to be quite a strongly-run two miles.
