The Amber Fort makes it onto The Shortlist on the ‘Place’ setting with a score of 11, having three sections of green and two of amber. This shows that he appears to be well suited to today’s conditions and at a current price of around 8/1, he is worth a closer look.
He runs in a seven-furlong handicap on the all-weather at Wolverhampton today, in what looks like a competitive race.
The recent form of The Amber Fort is not particularly great, but he was a decent second place over six furlongs at Southwell in December in a similar quality handicap and I am hoping the extra furlong will help.
He is just the one pound higher in the handicap than for that second place, and with a mark of 67, he is second in the Speed Ratings in this field.
Kieran Shoemark has managed a couple of recent winners, and he’s 2/9 over the past 30 days for an Impact Value of 1.94.
He also has a reasonable record here at Wolverhampton, where over the last year he’s had four winners (12.90%) and 16 places (51.61%) from 31 runners, for level stakes profits of 4.50 and 11.12 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.19.
The Amber Fort’s sire, Elusive Quality, has a better record with his runners on the all-weather with an improved strike rate of over 2.5% compared with his overall record.
The Instant Expert report highlights the good showing of The Amber Fort, and from this report, he appears easily the best suited to today’s conditions in a race that looks like it has a lot of out-of-form runners in.
The Pace report shows that early leaders and prominent runners here over this distance have the best record, with 11.85% and 12.54% of them going on to win the race.
The Amber Fort is usually held on to and kept in mid-division, which I imagine will be similar today as there is a bit of pace in the race.
