Race of the Day – 28 February 2018
Race of the Day – 19:45 Newcastle
The Trainer Jockey Combo Stats report shows that Jim Goldie and Phil Dennis have a useful record together over the last year at Newcastle. They have managed eight winners (26.67%) and 14 places (46.67%) from 30 runners, for level stakes profits of 14.48 and 27.23 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.48.
They have two runners together at Newcastle this evening and it’s Fintry Flyer that I’m going to be taking a closer look at.
Fintry Flyer has been running consistently well over the winter, with two third placed finishes and a second (all here at Newcastle). She was finishing strongly after an awkward start last time out and if she can break on level terms today I think she has a good chance.
Jim Goldie has been among the winners recently with four (23.53%) from his last 17 runners, which have produced a level stakes profit of 0.75 and an Impact Value of 1.98.
He also does well when he sends his runners here. Over the last year, he’s had 15 winners (20%) and 34 places (45.33%) from 75 runners, for level stakes profits of 16.59 and 49.53 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.86.
Claimer Phil Dennis also has a good record here at Newcastle. From his last 62 rides here, he’s had nine winners (14.52%) and 19 places (30.65%), for level stakes profits of 3.48 and 1.18 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.35.
The Instant Expert report doesn’t have too many sections of green, but Fintry Flyer has three to her name and one of amber, showing she is well suited to today’s conditions.
When looking at the Pace report we can see that horses that are held up have the best strike rate, with 11.61% of them going on to win the race. There isn’t great deal between the four running styles, however, so it’s not a huge bias.
Roy’s Legacy is usually away from the stalls quickly and looks the most likely early leader in a race that doesn’t have a lot of pace in.
Fintry Flyer is normally content to be waited with and I would expect Dennis to do the same again today.
