Toriano makes it on to The Shortlist in a seven-furlong handicap at Lingfield today, with a useful score of 11. He has four sections of green and only the field size category being red, showing that he is well suited today’s conditions.
This is an open looking handicap with quite a few of the runners not appearing to be in good form on the face of it.
The most recent form of Toriano has not been good, but he was a winner over course and distance four runs ago from just a two pound lower mark. The return to seven furlongs looks likely to help and the jockey booking of Joe Fanning is a good one.
Trainer Nick Littmoden has a good record here at Lingfield over the past year. from 11 runners, he’s had three winners (27.27%) and four places (36.36%), for level stakes profits of 11.50 and 10.20 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.32.
Joe Fanning also appears to enjoy riding here. Over the past year, he’s had 13 winners (27.66%) and 21 places (44.68%), for level stakes profits of 7.46 and 3.45 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.36.
The Instant Expert report confirms the good showing of Toriano and also highlights what I mentioned earlier about him being just the two pounds higher than for his last victory.
The rest of the field doesn’t appear that well suited to conditions, although Cyrus Dallin does have three sections of green and one of amber, so may be worth a closer look at a nice price.
The Pace report shows that early leaders here over this distance have an excellent record, with 18.75% of them going on to win the race, for a level stakes profit of 20.75 and an Impact Value of 2.52.
Tavener is a confirmed front-runner and looks likely to be vying for the early lead.
Toriano was quickly away for his last run and it would be no surprise to see Fanning try and get a good positive early position.
