Race of the Day – 30 April 2018

Race of the Day – 20:20 Southwell

The Trainer Snippets report shows that Shaun Harris has an excellent record with last time out winners. From his last 28 such runners, he’s had nine winners (32.14%) and 15 places (53.57%) for level stakes profits of 42.75 and 51.36 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.70.

He runs Song Of Love in a one and a half mile handicap at Southwell this evening who was a winner last time out at Chelmsford.

Song Of Love hadn’t been in particularly good form prior to his last race, but he had dropped to an attractive mark and battled really well to take the spoils. He only has an extra pound to carry here today and the drop back to a trip he has won over twice before looks a good move.

As well as having a good record with last time out winners, trainer Shaun Harris’ recent form figures look reasonable. Over the past 30 days, he’s had one winner (12.5%) and two places (25%) from eight runners, for level stakes profits of 9.00 and 7.90 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.23.

Jockey P J McDonald has a good long-term record here at Southwell. Over the past five years, he’s had 23 winners (12.99%) and 58 places (32.77%) from 177 runners, for level stakes profits of 25.26 and 8.34 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.06.

He has also been among the winners recently. Over the past 14 days, he is 4/36 (11.11%) for an Impact Value of 1.18.

The Pace report shows that prominent runners here over this distance have the best record, with 16.08% of them going on to win the race, for a level stakes profit of 59.02 and an Impact Value of 1.32.

Both Arabian Oasis and Max Liebermann are usually quickly away and it looks likely to be between them for the early lead.

Song Of Love is usually held up and waited with and I expect McDonald to do something similar in this one.
