Friday’s Pick was…

6.35 Wolverhampton: The Throstles @ 9/2 BOG  WON 7/2 ()

Saturday’s pick runs in the…

4.45 Sandown

Before I post the daily selection, just a quick reminder of how I operate the service. Generally, I’ll identify and share the selection in the evening before the following day’s race and I then add a detailed write-up later on that night/next morning.

Those happy to take the early price on trust can do so, whilst some might prefer to wait for my reasoning. As I fit the early service in around my family life, I can’t give an exact timing on the posts, so I suggest you follow us on Twitter and/or Facebook for instant notifications of a published pick.

Secret Return @ 8/1 BOG

In a 12 runner Class 4 1m handicap, worth £6469 to the winner…

I wanted to highlight a new trainer who is definitely one to keep onside regardless of how today’s (longer odds than usual) selection runs. His name is Paul George, and he’s the son of Karen George. Since taking on the license he’s hit the mark with some big priced winners, including 33/1 and 50/1, from just 18 starters so far.

Four of those 18 have won, and it would have been five but for Essgee Nics unseating – in a National Hunt Flat race – when leading inside the final furlong. Obviously with those big priced winners, George’s figures are positive: he’s +83.5 so far.

Here he runs Secret Return, inherited from his mother, and Jamie Spencer inherits the ride from the competent Rhiain Ingram. Spencer is a master from the front and I expect this chap to raced prominently at least in a race with very little pace.

Jamie Spencer is a man riding in great form right now, too. He’s ridden 12 winners from 35 rides in the past fortnight (34%), for +20.18.

The horse’s form at mile is 1213, the pick of which has been earned on the easy side of good – which she’ll get here. As a five year old with just eight runs to her name, she has more scope than her rivals to improve, and this consistent mare looks likely to run a game race once more…

… so it’s a 1pt win bet on Secret Return at 8/1 BOG, a price offered by Betfair and Paddy Power (Skybet and BetVictor 15/2) as at 6pm on Friday evening.

P.S. all P/L returns quoted in the stats above are to Betfair SP, as I NEVER bet to ISP and neither should you. I always use BOG bookies for SotD, wherever possible, but I use BFSP for the stats as it is the nearest approximation I can give, so I actually expect to beat the returns I use to support my picks. If that’s unclear, please ask!
