Race of the Day – 11 Jul

Race of the Day – 19:15 Brighton

There are just the six runners that go to post in this one and a half mile handicap, but it is still a very competitive looking race.

Wapping, trained by David Lanigan, is chasing a hat-trick after wins at Bath and Brighton. Last time out here at Brighton was over today’s distance and on very similar going, therefore from just two pounds higher in the handicap he should have a great chance if repeating the same level of form.

Pacharana found a hot handicap at Newmarket too much for her last time out, however, prior to that she was a good winner over today’s distance at Lingfield. Her trainer, Luca Cumani has been among the winners recently and also has quite a useful long-term record here at Brighton.

Cape Discovery is the outsider in the field at 9/1, but interestingly he has the highest Speed Rating, with a mark of 77.

The Shortlist is available to all registered users on a Tuesday, and when put on the ‘Place’ setting, Wapping gets a perfect score if 15. This shows that the Smart Strike gelding is very well suited by today’s conditions and has a lot in his favour here.

The Instant Expert report is predictably dominated by the full line of green next to the name of Wapping, however, there are a few other sections of green dotted around as well.

New World Power actually has four sections of green and one of grey, having never run here at Brighton before. He is a very lightly raced four-year-old, however, with conditions to suit and the in-form Oisin Murphy doing the steering, a big performance wouldn’t be a surprise.

There doesn’t appear to be an awful lot of pace in the race, however, early leaders here over this distance have a very good record, with 17.69% of them winning the race for a level stakes profit of 15.38.

Cape Discovery has the highest pace score in this field based on the last four runs for each horse, but he has only led one of those races and there is the chance that this could be a falsely run race with none of the runners keen to head to the front and make the running.
